As you peruse our 5 inch backset handlesets, keep in mind that you'll need to select a product and then change the desired backset measurement manually. For example, after you click on a Kwikset product, you'll be taken to that product's page; on the right side of that page, you'll see a column of white boxes that you have to fill out before you can place your order. At (or near) the bottom of that list, you'll see a white box labeled, "Select Backset." You'll need to choose "5 Inch Backset" from that box's drop-down list in order to purchase a 5 inch backset handleset. Also, be aware that a 5 inch backset may cost more than a standard adjustable latch.

The handlesets from Kwikset are available in two functions: Single Cylinder or Dummy. If you have a double front door with one generally inactive side while the other side is always active, you will need a combination of two handle sets. For the active side, you'll need a Single Cylinder handleset. Single Cylinder handlesets are locked and unlocked with a key from the exterior and with a thumb turn from the interior. For the inactive door, you'll want to order a Dummy handleset. This gives you the look of a complete working set, but the Dummy side doesn't have all of the same mechanisms, making it perfect for an inactive door. The same functions are available for Schlage products, except for the keyless options, which only come in Single Cylinder.
