Door Preparation for Emtek Hardware

This line of door hardware fits into a standard American style tubular door prep. If you are replacing existing locks, then your door preps will most likely be correct for this brand of doorknobs. Just determine the backset and you're ready to order. This brand of knobs is shipped with square corner strike and mortise plates. If you need rounded mortise plates, you'll need to specify when ordering. There are certain locksets that will require different bore hole spacing than the standard American bore hole spacing for knobs and deadbolts. Any special requirements will be noted on the individual product page for that particular doorknob. These keyed locks with sideplates require two sets of holes with a center-to-center distance of 3-5/8" between the two sets of holes. Please watch for special notes on any of our door hardware product pages so that you don't order doorknobs that are not going to work with your existing doors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Emtek door hardware made?

Emtek hardware is assembled in the City of Industry, California. All products are assembled per order according to your specifications. Emtek is a subsidiary of the Swedish company Assa-Abloy.

What is the Emtek CF Mechanism?

Standard Emtek door hardware has exposed screws on the inside of the knob or lever set. Emtek developed the CF mechanism which stands for Concealed Fastener. CF mechanism sets have concealed screws for a sleeker look. CF levers are also reversible so you don't have to worry about door handing. The limitation with CF mechanism knob or lever sets is that they do not accommodate doors over 2 1/4" thick.

Is Emtek door hardware good quality?

Emtek is made of solid brass, stainless steel or sandcast bronze depending on the style you choose. It would be comparable in construction to Baldwin brand which is also made of solid brass. You get a great value with Emtek because there are so many possible configurations. This allows you to get a custom look in one of many popular finishes. So yes, we would say great quality for the cost.

Can Emtek locks be rekeyed?

Yes, Emtek locks can be rekeyed. They can also be keyed alike if you are ordering locks for multiple doors in your project. Emtek comes standard with a Schlage C keyway, but can also be ordered with a Weiser keyway if you need.

How can I get Emtek products faster?

For a fee, Emtek will rush an order through assembly. Please give us a call to get this done at 307-886-9449. Since all Emtek hardware is custom assembled there is a lead time involved. This is typically about a week before shipping but can vary according to the Emtek factory workload. When an order is rushed they still have to assemble it, but they rush it through and typically have it out the door within a couple of business days - overnighted to you. If you'd like to place an order for Emtek hardware and have it rushed, you'll need to give us a call so we can calculate the cost and place the order correctly.

How does an Emtek privacy lock work?

Emtek privacy locks use a pushpin in the rosette of the door knob or lever. From inside the room you push in the pushpin to lock the door. You can unlock the door by turning the knob or lever from the inside. On the exterior of the knob or lever there is a pinhole in the rosette. This will allow you to release the lock mechanism in the event of an emergency.
